As a new patient at a dental office, the first visit you’ll experience is called a “Comprehensive Exam.” Your name will make an appearance on their records for the first time!
To get to know you and your oral health, Comprehensive Exams are an essential first step. X-rays are necessary because they help to see below what’s visible. The only visible part of your teeth are the “crowns,” leaving so much more to evaluate! Dental X-rays are a precise way to spot dental problems! A panoramic X-ray will be taken to evaluate your whole mouth. Next, a set of “Bitewing” X-rays will help the dentist determine the need for fillings, root canals, or crowns. A hygienist will then complete “perio charting” to gently evaluate your gum health. Some dentists take headshots or “intra-oral” photos of specific teeth so that you can visualize the dental problems you may have.

You will have the time to know more about your dentist and vice versa! Medical and dental history breakdowns are equally as important in the exam to better plan your best care. They will give you a physical exam, gently exploring your oral health. If there are any findings, the dentist will share with you, showing X-rays and photos.
